Young Creatives: Wildflower Words Co.

As a young entrepreneur, I know first hand that we are hard-working, we think out of the box, and we have so much talent to share with the world. Over the past few years, I have come across some incredibly talented young creatives that I am excited to highlight! Today I want to highlight Lily Chambers of Wildflower Words Co. Lily is a bright, sweet, and CRAZY talented 18 year old that has been running her hand lettering and fine art business for the past two years! Her artwork is not only beautiful to look at, but many are rooted with a special story. One day she might be creating a custom watercolor painting of a couple's first home, or lettering a verse, quote, or lyrics that have a special meaning to a person.

About you: I am currently a senior at Weddington High School. I love all kinds of art, my dog, and watching lots of Netflix.

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

What made you want to start your business: I have always had a passion for making art and it is something that has always been prevalent in my life since I was little. In high school when I began taking art classes, I realized that my art was something that I could sell and I began hand lettering some of my pieces.

What has been your favorite project and why: My favorite project was making the signs for my brother's wedding. This was my first time lettering a large display and I really love how it turned out. It was such a privilege to be able to create pieces to be featured on their big day!

What inspires you: I am constantly inspired by other artists work that I see. I love to follow a variety of artists that work with different mediums and each have unique styles of work because it inspires me to create my own style as an artist and strive to either challenge myself in my own work.

In what aspects are you most rewarded by what you do: One of pieces that I feature on my website, are custom home watercolor paintings. These pieces are rewarding because they hold meaning to the customer and capture a place and time close to their heart. I also create custom wedding pieces such as signs, table numbers, and place cards which is gratifying because I get to contribute to one of the most significant days in someone's life.

Your future plans: I plan to study at the Savannah College of Art and Design for the next four years, and either continue growing my own business or do creative work for another company.

Favorite quote: “Life always begins with one step outside of your comfort zone.” Shannon L. Alder

This is one of my favorite quotes because a struggle I had when starting my business was constantly worrying about what others would think of me, or having to deal with customers who are all most likely older than me, which was quite uncomfortable. The whole process of learning how to run a business, dealing with customers, and promoting my business was all uncomfortable for me, and still is. But if I had remained comfortable and did not take steps in my business that scared me, I would not have a business at all and would not be able to share my work with others.
